Filter direction of cylinder and arched sieves (FITO or FOTI):
Wedge wire sieves, either bent or rolled into a cylinder, have a specific filtration direction.
Der findes to typer: FITO (From Inside To Outside) og FOTI (From Outside To Inside).
- FITO (From Inside To Outside): Here, the pulp to be filtered is poured inside the cylinder or plate and filtered out to the outside.
- FOTI (From Outside To Inside): Here, the pulp is applied to the outside of the wedge wire sieve, and the filtered liquid flows through to the inside.
The profiles on the wedge wire sieve always face the pulp with the widest surface to ensure maximum filtration. Because the profiles are triangular, the smallest opening is at the widest surface. This ensures precise filtration, allowing only the desired particles to pass through. At the same time, the material that passes through can easily continue through the gradually larger opening, reducing the risk of clogging.
In the image gallery, you can see the various constructions.
Wedge wire filters are used to filter liquids from solid fractions through slotted openings designed to provide the desired effect and an optimized construction.
Filtration with Wedge wire filters are used in:
- Agriculture
- Horticulture
- The food industry
- Pharmaceutical industry
- Petrochemical industry
- Textiles / laundries
- Mining and minerals
- Recycling and wastewater management
- Drinking water
We have seen wedge wire filters used for:
- Water intake: Often seen in fish farms or seawater.
- Microfiltration in N2/nitrogen plants: With filtration grades around 50 microns (0.05 mm) and pressures over 18 bar.
- Screw press filter: Hvor en snegl presser materiale mod sielementet for at knuse klumper eller presse vandet ud af materialet. Her kan du blandt andet høre Biofiber-Daminos oplevelse med denne applikation efter skiftet fra en hulplade.
- Beer brewing and cooling towers: Where the wedge wire filters functions as a bottom filter, strong enough to walk on and can withstand a scraper.
- Wedge wire drums: For fine filtration before recirculating liquids, typically used in food production.
- Pre-filter: With large slot openings for sorting, for example, potatoes in a slotted trough.
Our wedge wire filters are typically used in industry production processes where function, economy, and efficiency are crucial.
Wedge wire filters are often The filter element in larger filtration systems, such as bow screens or drum screens.

All our wedge wire sieves and filter inserts are made to order, tailored to your specific task.
Manufacturing Method
Wedge wire filters are produced by placing profiles across the filter surface with openings fitted to the filtering needs, down to 20 microns (0.02 mm). Support profiles are placed across these to ensure a stable construction.
Available wedge wire sieve sizes
Wedge wire sieves can be produced as:
- Flat panels of wedge wire screens up to 3,500 x 4,000 mm
- Cylinders/tubes from Ø21 mm up to Ø914 mm with lengths up to 7,200 mm
Delivery time
The typical delivery time is 3-12 weeks, depending on type, material, and design.
Strength and durability
Profiles and support profiles can be designed to provide extra strength if you need a particularly robust filter. Wedge wire filters are generally very strong and can withstand both high weight and high pressure. This strength makes them ideal as filter floors, as they can be constructed robust enough to walk on.
Optimized filtration
Profiles can be tilted up to 10 degrees to increase the amount of liquid filtered in a one-way flow.
Customized endings
Since all wedge wire filters are produced for specific tasks, the ends can be customized to your needs. You can choose from different endings such as flanges, pipe sections, threads, end pieces, or just an open end. This means the filter can be mounted on your existing system, whether it requires an o-ring, bolted in place, or simply placed.
Food Contact and cleaning
If the filter is used for food contact and a surface roughness (Ra) below 0.8 microns is required, we usually recommend that the profiles are electropolished. This ensures they are always easy to clean.
Long lifespan
Due to the strength of the filter, it can typically last for many years. It can be advantageous to have two filters rotating during cleaning cycles. Although the product is easy to clean, for example, with high-pressure cleaning, replacement ensures you always have a filter element ready for use. With proper handling, two filters can often circulate for many years; we have seen filters still in use after 15 years.
